Summer Program

The Summer Program at Muhammadiyah University of Surabaya (MUS) is a short-term international academic and cultural immersion initiative designed to offer students from partner universities around the world a transformative learning experience in Indonesia. The program integrates classroom learning, hands-on activities, and community engagement with a strong intercultural focus. It provides participants the opportunity to explore key topics such as sustainable development, global health, innovation and entrepreneurship, Islamic studies, and social empowerment all contextualized within Indonesia’s rich cultural diversity.

A distinctive component of the program is the Bahasa Indonesia for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) module, delivered in collaboration with the Department of Indonesian Language and Literature. Through the BIPA program, participants not only learn the Indonesian language but also experience local culture firsthand through interactive field trips, traditional art workshops, and community-based learning. This combination allows international students to develop both linguistic competence and cultural intelligence as well as all essential skills for global citizens in an interconnected world.

The Summer Program MUS has been widely recognized for its good practices in global education and intercultural collaboration. Previous participants from Malaysia, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, and the Philippines have joined MUS students in community-based projects, cultural immersion, and joint academic sessions that promote cross-cultural understanding and sustainable innovation. By merging academic rigor with social engagement, the program embodies MUS’s mission to nurture graduates who are morally grounded, intellectually excellent, and globally engaged, reflecting the university’s vision of becoming a World Class University rooted in morality, intellect, and entrepreneurship.
