On January 30, 2026, the Faculty of Education, Communication, and Science (FPKS) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya hosted a Visiting Scholar session featuring Catherine D. from Soochow University, Taiwan.
In this academic session, Prof. Catherine D. delivered a lecture on Ecoliterature, exploring how literary works reflect environmental awareness, ecological crises, and the relationship between humans and nature. She discussed how literature can function as a medium for environmental advocacy, shaping readers’ perspectives on sustainability and ecological responsibility.
The session attracted lecturers and students from various study programs who are interested in literature, cultural studies, and environmental humanities. Through interactive discussion, participants examined examples of literary texts that portray ecological themes and debated how ecoliterature can be integrated into teaching and research in higher education.
